Travelling to the Blether

Getting to Laurieston Hall, Dumfries

Lauriston Hall is located along the A762 to Mossdale, about 1 mile north of Laurieston Village. The nearest train station is in Dumfries. Dumfries can be reached by train directly from Glasgow Central Station, and from Carlisle, in case you travel from Edinburgh(!) or England.

Trains to Dumfries:
The train from Glasgow takes about 1h 45min, and the return fare is about £20. There are trains about once every two hours, and the latest train back on sunday is 20:06, arrival in Glasgow 21:50.

The quickest connection from Edinburgh is probably via Carlisle on fridays and saturdays, and travel back via Glasgow on sunday evening.

From Carlisle to Dumfries is about 30 min with the train. There are early trains on Saturday too.

Buses to Castle Douglas (and Laurieston)
From Dumfries there are buses from Dumfries to Castle Douglas at 19:35, 20:40 and 21:55 (fare is £2.40). This journey takes roughly 50 minutes. We will pick people up from there Friday evenings from busstop Carlingwalk station.

On weekdays there is a postbus leaving 14:55 and arriving in Laurieston Village at 15:10, and on Saturday morning there are a number of buses going to Laurieston village (see the Time Tables here) but you might not want to rely on that because there is not much info available on the operator Armstrong coaches.
